Africa × India Sustainable Luxury Mission 2026

Executive Summary

Threads of Legacy: Africa × India Sustainable Luxury Mission 2026 is a flagship creative diplomacy initiative uniting Africa and India through sustainable luxury, craftsmanship, and technology. Co-led by the African Fashion Council (AFC) and Dhana Inc., with support from governments of India and Africa, the program brings African designers to India for a two-week immersive mission. By merging craft, innovation, and storytelling, the initiative seeks to establish a new Global South model for conscious fashion advancing cross-cultural collaboration, trade, and sustainability.

A Journey of Craft, Consciousness, and Cultural Exchange

The Threads of Legacy mission brings together ten visionary African designers and India’s world-renowned artisan communities for a transformative exploration of sustainable luxury fashion. Rooted in the depth of cultural heritage and propelled by cutting-edge innovation, this initiative celebrates the mastery of craft, the intentionality of conscious design, and the beauty of cross-cultural collaboration.

In this journey, craft is honored through the meeting of African textile traditions, upcycling practices, and luxury artisanal design with India’s centuries-old legacies of weaving, block printing, embroidery, and natural dyeing. Consciousness anchors the mission in sustainability, ethical production, and the dignity of makers empowering designers and artisans to shape fashion’s future with respect for the planet and its people. Cultural Exchange becomes the vibrant bridge that connects communities across continents, fostering relationships, shared learning, and an evolving creative dialogue.

Technology and tradition meet through D/Sphere, which digitizes craft knowledge, enables cross-border co-design, and creates immersive storytelling experiences. From AI-supported zero-waste design to digital product passports and virtual exhibitions, innovation amplifies cultural heritage rather than replacing it ensuring the stories behind each garment are preserved, honored, and shared globally.
