Overview of the Threads of Legacy Mission

Threads of Legacy: Africa × India Sustainable Luxury Mission 2026 is a flagship creative diplomacy initiative uniting Africa and India through sustainable luxury, craftsmanship, and technology.

Co-led by the African Fashion Council (AFC) and Dhana Inc., the mission brings together designers, artisans, industry leaders, and cultural institutions to reimagine fashion through collaboration and shared heritage.

At its core, Threads of Legacy positions fashion as a powerful vehicle for cultural exchange, economic development, and global cooperation connecting two of the world’s most influential craft and textile ecosystems to establish a new Global South model for conscious luxury.

A Journey of Craft, Consciousness and Cultural Exchange

The mission brings ten visionary African designers to India for a two-week immersive experience engaging with India’s renowned artisan communities, textile clusters, and creative institutions. Through hands-on collaboration, co-creation, and storytelling, designers and artisans explore how heritage techniques and contemporary innovation can coexist and evolve together.

Craft is honored through the exchange of African textile traditions, upcycling practices, and luxury design methodologies with India’s centuries-old legacies of weaving, block printing, embroidery, and natural dyeing.

Consciousness anchors the mission in sustainability, ethical production, and respect for the dignity of makers advancing circular fashion and responsible consumption.

Cultural Exchange serves as the bridge, fostering long-term relationships, shared learning, and creative dialogue across continents.

A landmark fashion presentation and exhibition in India, bringing together collaborative collections, buyers, media, and cultural leaders.

• Media & Storytelling

A global storytelling campaign capturing the hands, histories, and human stories behind the garments through film, photography, and editorial content.

• Technology Integration

Leveraging D/Sphere to support digital co-design, craft documentation, virtual exhibitions, and transparent storytelling ensuring innovation amplifies heritage rather than replacing it.
